A Short Story About FSPC

Fountain Square Presbyterian Church had its beginnings at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, in Indianapolis' Old North Side. As the church grew, a distinct membership group centered around Fountain Square and the surrounding neighborhoods began to emerge. Having a desire for a church in Fountain Square, they began praying and working with Redeemer leadership to create a new church in Fountain Square, for Fountain Square. In 2013, Redeemer called Pat Hickman to lead the church plant. Pat, his wife Stephanie, and their three children moved to Fountain Square, and Fountain Square Presbyterian Church was born.

For its first twelve years, FSPC worshiped in partnership with Southeast Community Services, which generously provided space for worship, offices, and childcare. During that season, the church continued to grow in clarity and calling. In March 2022, a long-held vision became reality when Fountain Square Presbyterian Church became a fully self-governing congregation within the Presbyterian Church in America.

In December 2024, FSPC entered into an agreement to purchase St. Mark’s English Lutheran Church at 1301 Prospect Street, where the congregation has worshiped since late 2025. Built in the 1920s, the church sits among Fountain Square landmarks such as the Murphy Arts Center and Fountain Square Theatre, and has long been a defining architectural presence in the neighborhood. Designed by English-born architect Alfred Grindle, the building features Indiana limestone detailing and 53 original stained glass windows, influencing the character of surrounding residential, civic, and commercial buildings for generations.

What Is Our Church Like?

FSPC seeks to center our worship and work around these core, guiding principles, each of which is derived from the Gospel story found in the Holy Scriptures:

  • Transforming safety of the gospel

  • Desperate dependence on Jesus

  • Life-giving authority of Scripture

  • Meaningful relationships in community

  • Thoughtful, expectant worship

  • Creating beauty where we are

  • Respectful evangelism

  • Global renewal

In our rootless and fractured culture, we find deep delight in the wholeness that deep roots give. Our worship and life together as a community centers around what Christians have spoken, sung and celebrated together for thousands of years. We embrace the historic Christian faith as expressed in the ancient creeds of the universal church (the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds). As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, we also trace our roots through the Reformed Protestant tradition. The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Heidelberg Catechism are helpful summaries of these beliefs, along with their accompanying catechisms. Our membership in the PCA gives us regional accountability and support, as well as partnership in mission both at home and abroad. Our regional ties connect us with the Central Indiana Presbytery, which includes churches in the area.
